Port olympic Print E-mail

The firs time I get there it was a lot of fun, the best place if you want to hang out and spend great time from visiting around 15 disco bars.

This is the place to go if you are looking for a fantastic night out. The Port Olympic marina is lined by two levels. The top level has all the restaurants to go early on, then once you are full, head down to the lower level for a line of bars and clubs that just seems to go on and on.

Arc de Triomf Print E-mail

Barcelona Arc de Triomf was erected for the 1888 Universal Exposition held at the Parc de la Ciutadella, where it served as the entrance to the event.

The style is similar to Moorish, also known as Mudejar, well they dominated in Spain for centuries. The exterior is festooned with stone carvings, including a frieze. The elegant work symbolizes the welcoming of visitors to Barcelona.

On the opposite side, a stone carving called Recompense decorates the wall. Along the horizontal sections above the arc there are twelve statues of women representing various aspects of the city. It is accompanied by decorative elements symbolizing all the other provinces of Spain. At the top above the central figure there is a superbly crafted Coat of Arms, the official logo of Barcelona. Alongside the shield are two impressive looking lions. Those elements show an interesting mix and a deviation from Moorish influence, since Islamic art is decorative but contains no human or animal figures.

Sitges 2008 Print E-mail

For all the people who are coming to Barcelona for holidays, do not miss the opportunity to visit some towns close to Barcelona…there are also very nice places to go close to the city.

As an example, I would recommend you to visit a town called Sitges. It is located just 40 km south from Barcelona and you can go there by car, train or bus. One of the greatest things of Sitges is without any doubt its architecture. The streets are strait, there is also a great and beautiful church and there are lots of art galleries. In fact, many painters come to Sitges to get inspiration to their work because of its views, buildings and the general atmosphere.

The Fountain of Montjuic Print E-mail

When you live and work in a city every day, then you start to take it for granted and sometimes you forget about all of the possible things there are to do and places there are to visit!!! …But it is nice have a break from the routine and to do these things every so often! Last weekend a friend of mine came to visit and I switched to ‘tourist lifestyle’!

magic fountain Montjuic

I recalled a wonderful place: the Magic Fountains of Montjuic! Why magic? Because the water in the fountains comes to life and dances to the rhythm of the music! The foot of the Montjuic hill, between the two towers on Plaza Espanya and the last fountain before the museum, is transformed into a huge light show! The water of the fountain is illuminated by wonderful coloured lights, which create abstract forms and continuous patterns and which then move to the sounds of internationally famous pieces of music and theme tunes from accross the world! The show is repeated every 30 minutes, so there is more than one chance to see it! Unfortunately we actually arrived too late on Saturday and so we tried again on Sunday, at the right time!

El chiringuito Print E-mail

Along the beautiful beach fronts of Barcelona there are at least a dozen beach cabana bars called Chiringuitos. These well put together beach shacks are open all day for you to relax and drink a cold beer during the sweltering hours. All day you find locals and tourist mixing together among the 8 –10 tables on the patio of each Chiringuito. You can rent beach chairs and lounge chairs to spread out around the bar where girls come around every so often with a new type of chupito(shot). At night, the sun goes down but that does not mean the people go home. Some stay and they are joined by a completely new group of beach worshipers. Most come out to listen to a local DJ or band that is set up by the individual Chiringuitos. The price of drinks goes up about a Euro and not each Chiringuitos has live music everynight but on the weekends most do and the people love to come out and dance in the sand.

Many of the bars also set up lights so that people can go out swimming – clothes optional- within range of view and the music. Many people enjoy a clara and a bikini sandwich at the bar and some sit out on the sand on bamboo mats listening to the waves.
